The Parish Council, with the Pastor, is a coordinating and unifying leadership group which enables the individual members of the parish to have access to the processes which guide and support parish life. This is accomplished through Spiritual Formation, Parish Planning, Policy Development and Communication with the parish family and the larger Church. The council has a membership of fifteen parishioners who are elected by the parish community or appointed by the pastor. The Council divides its responsibilities among commissions, each of which addresses a specific area of parish life and mission. These commissions include Education, Liturgy and Art and Environment, Christian Service - Family Life, Publicity, Evangelization, Stewardship and Maintenance. Council meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Hall of Bishops and are open to parishioners.

The Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s High School Youth have a combined Catholic Youth Organization that meets weekly. A teen room has been developed in the lower level of the St. Mary’s Parish Center. The CYO have a monthly Mass at one of the two parishes. They are involved in spiritual activities as well as service projects and fund raising. There are several opportunities for the High School students to be involved in diocesan and nation events. Each spring there is a Diocesan CYO Convention for High School students, usually held in Salina. Every other year there is a National CYO Conference (NCYC) held throughout the United States. All high school youth are encouraged to participate in the CYO. Junior High students may attend a yearly camp experience near the end of May at Rock Springs Camp (near Junction City, Kansas). These activities and others planned by the Diocesan Office and our Parish are opportunities for our youth to continue growing in and putting their faith into action.
